The Asteroid No. 4 - The After Glow


The Asteroid No. 4 are an American Psychedelic rock band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting off together in Philadelphia in the 90s, the band headed to the West Coast in 2011 where they became an integral part of the underground psychedelic scene. Taking influences from bands such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd and The Byrds, the A4 created their own significant Psychedelic sound throughout their career. Having already created 9 Albums together, there is still no slowing them down and the 10th Asteroid no. 4 Album “Northern Songs” is Available July 2020 from Little Cloud Records & Cardinal Fuzz Records. 

Northern Songs features 10 songs for their 10th album, which was recorded by the band in their Northern California Studio. Two singles released from the album are “Northern Song” and “The After Glow”.

Today we focus on The After Glow. 
They start us off in an ethereal world. A sense of easy going, carefree playfulness mixes with guitars and keys drifting over a steady beat, these guys know how to create a dynamic, dreamlike feeling, which is exactly what a psychedelic band should be doing. 
Just as we get comfortable the reverb drenched vocals come into play, so delicate, light and lifting the song to a higher plane of existence. Continuing to dance over the same playfulness of keys and guitars that constant throughout, alongside the rooted drum beat giving it a sense of familiarity, making you feel at home as the bass pulsates at the heart of it. The song builds with a sense of ease with layering of the guitars which leave you hypnotised.

The comfort is evident, you can tell these guys have found their feet and know exactly what they want to generate musically, and in the way they want the audience to feel, you really do only find this with bands who have stood the test of time. They work together as one entity, all perfectly sitting equally in the mix, no fighting for one to have the limelight and just letting us come along for the ride to expand our consciousness. 

I do feel as though just as my journey starts, it’s too quickly to be over after 4 mins 36 seconds leaving me wanting more. Hopefully when the full album is released my thirst for this cosmic cocktail will be quenched.

The Sound of Origin are back with their second full-length in three years, Man in the Arena . After the release of the excellent The All Seeing Eye during lockdown, the band appeared at Bloodstock Festival for the first time in 2021 and recorded a cover of Alice Cooper's Sick Things for Pale Wizard Records. A rebrand followed, introducing a new drummer in Jack Walker, also of Gandalf the Green . ARTICLE: Why I love Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

On this day 50 years ago, Black Sabbath released Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on Vertigo I didn't grow up in a household of heavy music, so my first memory of hearing metal is being in my friend's kitchen at around seven years old, at the time when The Osbournes was on the telly. I didn't know what Black Sabbath or metal was back then, but I picked up on a couple of earworms that turned out to be Sabbath songs later down the line. LIVE REVIEW: Bands, breakdowns & beers on Sunday at Rabidfest 2023

Rabidfest is a yearly event in Oxford that's seen the likes of Discharge , Diamond Head and Blaze Bayley headline through the years. I was there for the first time last year as a performer and was really impressed at how well-run the event was; this year is no different, with friendly security, bar staff, organisers and front of house, as well as a ton of incredible bands. I'm only able to make the Sunday this time unfortunately, but I'm still left with some serious local and national talent to enjoy for a full day.  I get to the Bullingdon to the sweet, dulcet tones of Fetus Destruction blaring out of the speakers.
