A blog for heavy music lovers, by a heavy music lover. I cover a lot of stoner, doom and sludge, but also plenty of rock and metal music that isn't.

Why? I think all great bands should be shouted about, it's just that some are heard by far less.

DoD started with the recording and documenting of small gigs on YouTube. It expanded over time as I began to cover festivals and bigger events, with a presence on more social media platforms before I started hosting this blog that you're reading now, featuring articles and reviews for the first time in early 2020.

I am also an active contributor for The Razor's Edge, and outside my writing I'm regularly on stage as the guitarist in the bands Alunah and Slump. I am also the social media manager for DC Sound Attack and you can hire me to post on your band's behalf.

GIG REVIEW: Doom Over Birmingham, 16th March 2025

Ascendancy Promotions bought Doom Over Birmingham to the Midlands in March, setting a murky atmosphere over The Flapper with a varied lineup that had much to offer for fans of the low and slow. Drawing an impressive crowd in Birmingham as the clear result of hard work promoting the show, the room is full of people very early on in the evening, with the whole event genuinely feeling like the place to be for supporters of underground live music. After openers Suffering, my first band of the night was Tumanduumband , who I've seen many times over the years. Flanked by corpses onstage and with a Satanic aesthetic, they get heads nodding away in rhythm with their dark, hazy doom metal. With setlist staples like Throne Of Grief and Dread Lord shaking the venue's foundations, they know how to use the simple power of the riff to devastating effect, using just a bass guitar and a drum kit to deconstruct doom down to its very core. REVIEW: Dust - A Sonic Trip With Slump

Slump are a band very much in the ascendency right now (hopefully the cheque they gave me to write that will clear by the time this publishes) - with an ever increasing live presence across the UK and a burgeoning brand of distinctive Sludge Metal-tinged, Grunge-infused psychedelic rock, there has never been a better time to get fully behind a band who are working hard to make their way out of the murky backwaters of the UK Underground Doom scene. 2024 has seen the band going from strength to strength, playing sweaty, breathless shows in literally every single city across the entire country, to releasing the gnarly SP/LIT EP with the frighteningly heavy At War With the Sun.
